BeyondCon Schedule
On Friday after dinner, we will be offering a draping workshop, specifically for draping over a corset. If you'd like to participate, please bring 4 yards of inexpensive, lightweight, tightly woven fabric. You will also, of course, need to wear the corset for which you want a draper, plus a t-shirt. On Saturday, Lisa Satterlund will be conducting the Tambour Beading workshop. Tambour beading is a fast method of covering large areas of fabric with beads. Instead of knotting each individual bead in place, the beads are strung and applied with a hook, using a chain stitch along the back of the fabric. Materials fee $20, which covers hook, stand alone frame, fabric and beads. Agnes Gawne will be presenting a fascinating slide show on some aspects of the history of embellishment. Kate McClure will conduct a workshop on Velvet Embossing. Learn the technique of pressing designs into various types of velvet, methods of making the designs semi-permanent, and how to apply further decoration to the design afterward. If you have specific pieces of velvet you'd like to experiment on, by all means, bring them! Materials fee $2. Kate will also present The Language of Color. This is an overview of how color 'speaks' to the eye, and how to use it effectively to send an instant visual message from the stage. We will discuss the importance of color in history, as well as how certain lighting effects may be used to enhance your color story. Hand-outs will be provided, but a notepad and pen for notes are recommended.. Erik Prill will apply his skills to getting us all out on the dance floor. The theme of the dance is Velvet. For those who choose not to attend the dance, or who tire before the end, we will be having a discussion on how to trim your stash and how to find treasures in the trash. For those of us awake on Sunday morning, Julie Zetterberg will teach Introduction to Tatting with a Shuttle. Participants will learn the basic moves and stitches of the delicate art of tatting. From these simple shapes, combined and repeated, make elegant lace trims and motifs. It's almost like magic. Materials fee (for shuttle and thread): $4.00. There is no charge if you bring a tatting shuttle (any style). |
